My Favorite Mistake Essay

My Favorite Mistake~

12:01, 12:02, 12:03, 12:04. The bell rang as I quickly wrote down my last answer and raised my hand to turn in my quiz to the teacher. Uh oh…I hadn’t studied that much the night before, and I didn’t know how to answer many of the questions on the quiz.

Two days later, I walked into algebra class with worry plastered all across my face. My hands were shaking and my heart was pounding so hard that I could hear it. We would be getting our quizzes back today. As my teacher walked toward my seat, I knew at that moment that this was NOT going to be good.

She placed the quiz on the table face down and I wordlessly flipped it over. My stomach sank as I saw the grade.

A 68.

SIXTY-EIGHT.

Sixty-eight, as in not even passing.

I knew I had done bad, but not THAT bad.

What were my parents going to say when they saw my grade? The first algebra quiz of the year, and I had failed it.

I quickly slipped my quiz in my binder and covered my face with my hands.

When I took my quiz home, my parents were actually surprisingly supportive. They helped
me correct my quiz and find out what I had gotten wrong, and why I had missed it.

Looking back, I realize that failing that quiz had actually helped me, instead of harming me. It taught me to study harder for quizzes and tests, and prepare for things like that earlier. I also learned what I still needed help on and what I didn’t understand. It was like a gift, giving me more knowledge, and if I had gotten a perfect score, I wouldn’t have learned at all. When I have another quiz, I’m sure that this mistake won’t happen again.

Doctor Who

I started watching Doctor Who during Thanksgiving Break because my best friend was kind of obsessed with it, and she want me to watch it. And let me just say, the show is AMAZING. It’s funny, exciting, sciency, and suspenseful all at the same time.

Basically, it’s about the Doctor, the last of the time lords, who travels around in the TARDIS, Time and Relative Dimension in Space. (The blue phone box pictured above.) All of the episodes are cleverly written and the actors portray the characters brilliantly. I think my favorite episode so far is ‘Blink.’

Anyone who enjoys science-fiction and things about time travel will like Doctor Who a lot.

Mental Well-Being in Students

Mental Well-Being in Students

Many students say that homework takes up so much of their time, and that they can not get enough sleep each night. But the thing is, are you managing your time wisely? Yes, it’s true that homework DOES take a lot of time, but you could greatly reduce the amount of time spent on homework.

First of all, are there many distractions around you as you do your homework? Are you constantly checking your phone or telling your little brother to be quiet? Eliminate these distractions and find a quiet place to work.

Create a schedule for doing your homework. Complete it earlier, so your mind is more alert, as compared to doing it in the middle of the night, when you are about to fall asleep. Also, do not do homework for 4 hours or more at a time. Take breaks every one hour or so or after you have finished a particular subject. This helps you concentrate more and lower your stress level.

Do not procrastinate. Getting things done earlier and way before they’re due helps free up your time for other things. Getting things done at the last minute will lower the quality of your work greatly.

Doing the things mentioned above will reduce the time spent on homework and ensure that you get more sleep each night, which is essential to having mental well-being.

Dinosaur Facts

When I was little, I was obsessed about dinosaurs (especially the triceratops.) I read many books about them, I watched TV shows and videos about them, I had dinosaur figurines, etc. So here are some facts about dinosaurs that I found particularly interesting.

  1. Dinosaurs are classified into two types : saurischian (lizard-hipped), and  (bird-hipped), rather than carnivore and herbivore.
  2. The smartest dinosaur was the Troodon.
  3. The dumbest dinosaur was the Stegosaurus, which had a brain the size of a walnut.
  4. Dinosaurs were actually not the first reptiles on Earth, archosaurs and therapsids were.
  5. Aquatic reptiles weren’t actually dinosaurs, because technically, dinosaurs were land-dwelling reptiles.

That’s all I have for now.

Cool Cello Video

I was looking around Youtube, and I found this video. It’s really creative and the specials effects are awesome. I don’t know much about Star Wars, but I’m pretty sure that it’s Ben Kenobi and Darth Sidious playing electric cellos, which is pretty cool. 🙂

The song that they play is basically a medley of a lot of songs from the Star Wars soundtrack. I play cello (I have for a year or so), and I can only hope to be that good someday in the future!

The channel on Youtube is calle ‘Thepianoguys’, and they mostly post cello/piano covers. (I play piano also.) I also like this video . It’s really funny and entertaining.

Anyways, thanks for reading!

My Puppy

I have a six month old puppy named Sadie. She is part black laborador retreiver, part border collie. Sadie is all black, with a tiny bit of white on her chest. She is SUPER hyper, and since she is part lab, and she has webbed feet (not really webbed feet, more like a flab of skin between her toes), she loves to swim. She jumps into our pool almost everyday. even when it’s raining. Sadie also likes to run and fetch things. She can catch a frisbee from about 3-5 feet away (it’s not very far..but still…). My family and I are working on training and she can sit, stay, down, come, etc. She is really smart and learns quickly. Sadie is really big for a six month old puppy. She is around 30 pounds!

We adopted her during the summer in June from the Austin Humane Society. You should go check out their website here. Who knows? You might just find your dream pet there~!

Government Shutdown

I feel that it is VERY irresponsible and immature of the politicians for the government to shut down. They should just agree on something, instead of affecting so many people. Politicians act like they’re doing what’s best for the citizens of America, but are they helping, when all federal workers are on furlough? The members of congress are still getting paid (a lot), while the federal workers are payless. The one good thing they’re doing is continuing to pay troops.

While the government shutdown does not affect me directly, I feel that a shutdown is not the way to solve a problem.

I hope I didn’t offend anyone with this….

~Oh and here’s a cool site that shows how much congress has earned since the shutdown.

Harry Potter

I’ll admit, I’m a Harry Potter nerd. I am absolutely obsessed with Harry Potter. I’ve read all of the books multiple times, and I’ve watched all of the movies except for the fifth, and both parts of the seventh one (unfortunately I’ve never had the chance to see them.) I could tell you exactly what happens in all of the books. The Harry Potter series is really awesome because it is full of action and the books always leave you wondering what is going to happen next. J.K. Rowling describes the scenes very well and she makes you feel like you are actually in the books. My favorite character is Hermione Granger because even though she is muggle-born, she strives to be the best in her classes. Hermione is also very brave and clever. The Harry Potter series is amazing and people of all ages can read them/watch the movies and enjoy them.
